Whether you have found a locale that you would like to return to year after year, or you are interested in traveling around the world, timeshares might be the perfect way to make these vacation dreams a reality. Trade in Your Home Resort There are several ways to use your timeshare to travel the globe, but first it is important to understand how timeshares work. When you buy a timeshare, you are actually purchasing an increment of time, usually one to two weeks, for annual or biennial usage. You can choose to purchase this time at a specific resort that you know you will want to return to year after year. With this method, it is assumed that you will return to this resort every year as designated, but provided that this resort belongs to an expansive exchange company like Interval International or RCI, you will be able to exchange your week for a week anywhere within the network. Consider Buying a Vacation Club Membership If you are not tied to any specific location, but want to use a timeshare to travel the world, you can purchase a membership with an organization called a vacation club. This is a less traditional method, but generally affords owners with more flexibility. With membership to a vacation club, owners are privy to a wide array of resorts within the network. They may choose a different resort every year and generally 'purchase' time at these resorts with points that they will have been allotted from the club. Save Thousands with Resale Once you have determined which option you feel most comfortable with, you can begin your search with a knowledgeable timeshare reseller. You can save thousands when purchasing your timeshare on the resale market, and you will not have to sit through dozens of high-pressure sales presentations that many resorts employ when trying to sell timeshare.
