The first ever National Park to be formed anywhere in the world is the Yellowstone National Park, which is situated across three states - Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. Created in 1872, it became one of the most famous tourist attractions in the United States. A Yellowstone vacation has much to offer, as travelers can enjoy a protected wilderness with wonderful scenery and wildlife.

The area's natural features include mountains and forests where herds of bison and elk roam wild. There are also a great number of wolves, moose, bighorn sheep, puma, grizzly bears, and black bears. There is even a big lake, a great volcano, and a 'Grand Canyon' of the Yellowstone, but the best-known geological wonders are the geysers and hot springs. The Old Faithful Geyser is famous across the planet and visitors seek it out.

Anyone afflicted with respiratory diseases should see their physician before vacationing in the park, as the hot springs and geysers spit out sulfur. The forests are crowded with aspen, fir, pine, and spruce. Some trees and plants are exclusive to the park.

Travelers must be appropriately dressed when visiting the vicinity, as the weather can turn bad without much notice. Some visitors book tours, led by a Park Ranger. Rangers are experienced people who pass their knowledge on.

Lodging is comfortable and includes hotels, cabins, and campgrounds. There is also one recreational vehicle park. Visitors are warned not to get close or to feed any dangerous animals they encounter. There are many reasons to go on a Yellowstone vacation. It is a superb place for backpackers, campers, and mountaineers. Travelers also like to go fishing, boating, or kayaking. Some like to explore by bicycle, on roller blades, or from horseback.

The park looks amazing in all seasons, including winter. It may be cold, but the area is spectacular after a light fall of snow. It is also possible to pursue winter sports on a Yellowstone vacation, and guides are available to lead those wishing to cross-country ski or to ride on a snowmobile. Some parts of the park and some roads are closed in stormy weather, however, and a few roads require that vehicles have snow tires and chains.

A Yellowstone vacation is a taste of the 'great America'. There are not many regions left on the globe where you can wake up in your room to the sound of wild wolves.

Remember, safety first - and you will have a superb Yellowstone vacation!
