Travel to Indochina for an Exotic and Mysterious Experience

   By puppyB

Searching for exotic and mysterious adventure trails? Looking for wild unexplored islands and beaches? Fascinated by temple culture and history, unique scenery, and wildlife? Seeking lively markets and gastronomic delights? Travel to Indochina!

For the exotic and mysterious, travel to what is still a largely unexplored part of the world - Indochina. East of India and south of China, this group of countries (some of which are only now beginning to fully open their doors to outsiders) have so much to offer in the way of travel opportunities.

Hanoi, Vietnam:

Hanoi, capitol of Vietnam, offers a unique combination of older style charm and modern convenience. Hanoi preserves many ancient architectural works including the Old Quarter, over 600 pagodas, and temples. Famous sites include the One Pillar Pagoda (1049), the Temple of Literature (1070), Hanoi Citadel, Hanoi Opera House, President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and more.

Hue, Vietnam:

The historic capital of Vietnam, Hue, sits astride a truly majestic and beautiful river, the Perfume River. Hue's complex history has earned it a reputation as a political, cultural, and religious center. The complex of tombs, pagodas, and palaces throughout Hue and its surrounds has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia:

The Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, is one of the better preserved French relics in Southeast Asia. By the time Cambodia became a part of French Indochina (1884), Phnom Penh had developed into a sizeable, largely French-designed city, and was considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in Southeast Asia, earning it the moniker, "Pearl of Asia".

Siem Reap, Angkor Vat, Cambodia:

Nestled between rice paddies and stretched along the Siem Reap River, the small provincial capital of Siem Reap Town serves as the gateway to the millennium-old temple ruins of the Khmer Empire. Designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Angkor Archaeological Park encompasses dozens of temple ruins including Bayon, Banteay Srey, and the legendary Angkor Wat.

Vientiane, Laos:

Southeast Asia's smallest capital has only about 800,000 inhabitants, resulting in the possibility of some peace and quiet: Vientiane is a place for passionate pedestrians. Enjoy the countless temples and pagodas with important Thai and Khmer shrines and relics. The French Colonial architecture sits next to gilded temples. Vientiane is also a place for passionate pedestrians - there is probably no other city in this region that can be so easily and pleasantly explored on foot.

Luang Prabang, Laos:

Luang Prabang is the former capital of Laos, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In recent years, it has become one of the major tourist destinations for Laos, resulting in greater interest in restoring and preserving its many Buddhist temples, as well as the sprouting of accommodation in Laos, ranging from backpacker hostels to boutique hotels.

That's the interesting thing about becoming a father. Suddenly you universally have something in common with other people. I can be sitting next to a very straight, humorless businessman or stockbroker type on an airplane and we'll just start talking about kids. And that conversation lasts three or four hours. -- Johnny Depp
