Picking the right clothes for traveling depends on your destination as well as the purpose of your trip. While a pair of jeans travels very well indeed, it might not be appropriate to wear it for a business meeting.

• Do a bit of research on your destination: Check the weather forecast so that you pick the right clothes. Also check out the social customs in the area. You do not want to end up in an embarrassing situation where you find yourself inappropriately dressed.

This is especially important if you know that you are traveling to the more conservative parts of the world. As far as women are concerned, it is sensible to dress according to the norms of the place you are visiting to avoid any unpleasantness.

• Pack clothes that you can wear more than once: Picking the right clothes will also help you to travel light. Lugging a heavy suitcase around can be painstaking. By picking the right clothes, you will be able to have a much more comfortable trip.

For example, if you are on a holiday, then a couple of jeans or cargos with enough tops will keep your suitcase light. Pick clothes in neutral colors. You will be able to mix-and -match and therefore save on the number of clothes you have to pack. As shoes are heavy, it makes sense to invest in a pair of shoes that can be used for the entire trip.

• Check out the fabric: Maintaining your clothes in a neat condition can be difficult while traveling. Therefore, pick clothes that are made of wrinkle-free fabrics. Linen might be comfortable and elegant, but it is unlikely that you will be able to wear it after it gets completely crushed in your suitcase. Select fabrics that breathe well and are easy-care. Stains and spills should not only be easy to wash out, but the fabric should dry quickly as well.

• Select comfortable clothes: traveling might involve long hours in an airport or in flight. You might also have to rough it out on buses and trains. Wear clothes that fit you well but are not too tight. Sitting for long hours on an aircraft with tight fitting clothes might not be the best start for your trip.

In fact, it makes sense to buy outfits that are a size larger and reserve them for your trips. You must also factor in the possibility that you might gain a couple of pounds on all the vacation food that you gorge on.

• Pick clothes that are convenient. For example, clothes with pockets are a great help while traveling. You can stuff in tissues, paper work, etc., and keep your hands free. Zippered pockets in the inner lining of jackets are great for storing passports and tickets. While style and fashion are great, the main reason for picking travel clothes is that they should be practical and functional.

You should aim at getting the most use from the clothes that you pack. A bit of care and consideration in this regard can go a long way in making your trip happy and comfortable.
