 Top Tips for Traveling Safely
Keeping safe while traveling in different countries is no different from when you are traveling around your own country. By being prepared, you will find yourself having a better and healthier time on holiday. These tips will help.

No matter where your next trip takes you, there is and always will be a need for safety tips and advice. So to travel safely while on your city break you should try to remember some if not all of the following tips:

Know Your Area

It doesn't matter if you are in Rome or Greece, you need to have a good idea of the town's layout and important features. Important places to locate include your accommodation, the local hospital, the police station, and at least one apothecary. Now this may seem hard, but if you mark them on a map and then find the center point, you have a good start.

Once you know the center of town, find a unique landmark that will stand out, even a local business will do. Now that you know one spot and its local name, you will be able to start back there repeatedly, and by knowing which important sites are in which direction, you can get help when needed.

Keep your Valuables Locked Up

There is no need to carry everything with you when you travel, but with anything you do carry, protect it. Upon arrival at your destination, many local banks and hotels will have safety deposit boxes to store valuables and personal effects in. You can keep most of your belongings in your room as well, but place irreplaceable items in the safes.

Dress Accordingly

While you are out and about, notice how others are dressed and try for the same casual look. Not only will you be able to blend in more and make targeting tourists harder, but you can also experience the local country much more.

Medical Needs

Keep all medicines with you at all times with extras locked away safely. Have a list of instructions in case something does happen, and make sure to have a list of phone numbers as well. By packing any medicines in their prescribed containers, the local doctor will already know something about you and how to treat you should you need it. Also having some at the hotel helps to ensure you have a supply if you need it.

When preparing for your trip, you need to tell your doctor where you are going, for how long, and that you want two bottles of your medicines - one to carry and one to store.

Keeping safe while traveling in different countries is no different from when you are traveling around your own country. By being prepared and paying attention, you will find yourself having a better and healthier time on holiday.

The traveler was active; he went strenuously in search of people, of adventure, of experience. The tourist is passive; he expects interesting things to happen to him. He goes "sight-seeing." -- Daniel J. Boorstin
