Three Exhilarating Activity Holidays for Your Next Vacation
|
If you are a thrill seeker and don't mind a bit of physical excursion to get your kicks, you might find that the perfect escape is an activity holiday. Activity holidays encompass some of the Earth's most stunning natural features. By Sam Qam For some of us, a holiday is a chance to escape the stresses of everyday life, unwind, and have a bit of fun. However, lounging by the pool or getting bronzed while lying on the beach isn't for everyone. Lots of people choose to do something a little more active with their time away. Have you ever considered an activity break? If you are a thrill seeker and don't mind a bit of physical excursion to get your kicks, you might find that the perfect escape is an activity holiday. Not only do activity holidays offer the chance to see different parts of the world, sometimes encompassing some of the Earth's most stunning natural features, but they also give you the chance to learn a new skill. So what types of activity holidays are there? Trekking Trekking is more than just mountaineering; it is days of walking, along with adventure. Despite requiring a high level of stamina and fitness, it is a great way to see some of the most beautiful sights and varied cultures of the world. Imagine the excitement of an expedition that takes you through the Nepalese Himalayas, over the top of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, or along the mountain ridge above the Urubamba River culminating in a visit to Machu Picchu in Peru. Surfing The beach isn't necessarily out of bounds on an activity holiday. Surfing breaks allow you to be very active and still catch some rays while waiting for the next big wave to break. This is a scenario where man must work with nature to find his thrills, as once in the ocean, you have to watch the tide and the waves rolling in so you can jump on your board and cruise into the beach, harnessing the momentum of the sea as you literally ride the crest of a wave. Many beaches on good surfing coastlines have surf schools, so if you are a complete novice, you can spend your holiday learning a new sport. Snowsports The exhilaration of bombing down a snow-capped mountain on either skis or a snowboard, being met with breathtaking views of beautiful mountain ranges at every turn, is something that is unrivalled. Formerly the exclusive domain of the wealthy, snow sports holidays have become much more accessible with the emergence of Eastern European resorts and affordable package and holiday property deals available in abundance. If you think you're not up to this intense challenge there's always the option of villa rentals in Spain. Whether you are an absolute beginner taking lessons every day, or an experienced snow season campaigner, there is plenty to be enjoyed away from the mountain. Most resorts are packed with restaurants serving hearty cuisine, bars full of hedonists enjoying some après ski refreshments, and facilities catering to other activities. However, if you are going as part of a big group, it can be as fun to rent large holiday homes or chalets and spend the evenings over a nice dinner and trading stories about the day's events.
