Are you open-minded enough to try one of the new, increasingly weird, but wonderful spa treatments available today? If the idea of a bird-poo facial does not turn you off, and you don't really mind tiny fish nibbling at your feet, read this article.

When you book a break at a spa hotel, you might be looking forward to a relaxing Swedish massage, allowing you to rest and relax for a blissful hour. Or maybe you have an age-defying facial in mind, and are hoping to head home with a beautiful spa glow.

However, if you are an adventurous individual, maybe you are open-minded enough to try one of the new, increasingly weird, but wonderful spa treatments available today!

If the idea of a bird-poo facial does not turn you off, and you don't really mind tiny fish nibbling at your feet, read on.

Try a Different Kind of Treatment at a Spa Hotel

As we all search for different ways to feel great and maintain the appearance of youth, the spa industry is seeking out some unusual ways to engage us.

A simple pedicure is a great way to pamper yourself, but you could go even further and seek out a spa hotel offering a pedicure using small carp fish that nibble away at the dead skin on your feet, leaving them soft and smooth. The tiny carp fish used are toothless and known as 'doctor fish'. They were originally used to treat conditions such as psoriasis; enthusiasts say the treatment is painless and works wonders.

Popular with Japanese Geishas in years gone by, you can now have a skin brightening bird excrement facial - specifically, nightingale excrement. However, don't worry, spa hotels offering this treatment first powder the droppings and sanitize them using UV light.

If using bird droppings in a facial is just a step too far in your quest for beauty, how about fish eggs in the form of caviar? Once reserved for extravagant cocktail parties, caviar is said to deliver a firming effect on the skin using the sea proteins it contains. If you are not short on money, some spa hotels will even offer it as a head-to-toe treatment, ensuring glowing and firm skin all over.

Wraps are a traditional spa treatment used to make you feel good and perhaps drop a few inches - some spa hotels offer a hay wrap, originally started in Italy. The guest lies on a sheet and is covered in pre-soaked hay; more hay is then piled on up to the chin and the sheet is then wrapped around the guest, before lowering them onto a waterbed heated to 107 degrees. This is one to avoid if you suffer from any allergies!

Push your spa boundaries.
