Traveling provides us with the perfect opportunity to explore new places, culture, and food. It gives us a break from the daily grind and re-energizes us. Because of these reasons, many eager travelers do not mind if they have to apply for personal loans to visit a foreign country at least once a year.

However contrary to what many people think, there are lots of ways to save on your travel budget and prevent the need to borrow money or load up your credit card. All it takes is a little creativity and charm.

Here are a few budget travel tips that you can use as you explore new places around the world. These tips may also be applied if you travel with the whole family.

Travel tip 1: Use the right credit card. One of the common mistakes that first-time travelers make is that they use the wrong credit cards in foreign countries. In return, they are billed with whopping interest rates at the end of the month.

This can be avoided. Instead of using a local credit card, apply for a travel credit card. Travel credit cards are especially made for travelers who travel around the world. What makes them ideal is that you won't get charged twice or thrice your local charges even if you swipe and use in banks or for merchants with foreign currencies.

Travel tip 2: Commute. If you take a car all the time, you'll break your travel budget - especially if you're in Europe. Instead, take public transport - subways, buses, etc. This is a great way to experience first-hand culture in your destination. Blend in with the locals. You can even talk to them! Another option is to walk. "Get yourself lost and find your way back." This is a travel philosophy among travelers who are looking for a one-of-a-kind adventure.

Travel tip 3: Say no to fancy restaurants. Maybe one luxurious dining experience should be enough throughout your stay. Eating in expensive restaurants all the time can cost you a lot of money. A great way to explore local cuisine is to dine with the locals. Find out where the locals eat. It might be a small basement down the corner of the block, but you'll be surprised how tasty their meals are!

Travel tip 4: Use the Internet. If you want to check on your family and friends back home, use the Web instead of your mobile phone. Call and SMS roaming can be costly, so enjoy their company through Skype instead.
