The time for your trip abroad is almost here. Now you need to pack for it. This brings us to the issue of what to take and wear when traveling abroad. Here are a few tips that will help you take everything you need without packing too much.

Clothing stores are like a virus in many ways. They have spread throughout the world. This is lucky for you, because it means you need not pack the things you might have to wear. You can buy them at your destination if necessary, and often cheaper.

However, what should you pack? The first step is not to buy several new outfits. Instead, focus on whatever you like wearing that is comfortable and not delicate. Pack it! New garments are dangerous as, you may find them uncomfortable with extended wear.

I need new Jordan cross-trainers for the trip, since I will be backpacking all over Europe, Asia or wherever. NO! Never buy new shoes for a trip. Your feet will be a mess of blisters and agony. Stick with what you have already broken in.

Now we get to the heart of the matter. Those things on the end of your legs are incredibly valuable. Just as shoes are important, so are your socks critical - white, cotton socks. Take several pairs to keep your feet in good shape.

Walk through a mall or down a crowded street, and you will see some amazing color combinations when it comes to outfits. If you are fashion conscious, try to pack clothes that are related to one color such as blue. If you are not a fashion fanatic, do not worry about it.

If you do not wear it at home, do not take it. There is some twisted portion in the mind of the average traveler that causes this to happen. They will always pack some rarely worn item, as though a new country will create the perfect scenario for wearing it!

When going to another country, you must be familiar with the customs and respect them. If the custom is to wear pants instead of shorts, do it even if it feels unbearably hot. This is particularly true for women in certain parts of the world.

'Daddy was a rolling stone' - or so the song went. The same should go for your travel clothing. To save packing space, try to take pieces that can be rolled up. Wrinkle-free or resistant pants and shirts make a major difference in the size of your luggage.

As a rule, you will pack far too much for your trip. When you get tired of lugging it around, a good way to get rid of it is to mail it back to yourself. The mail carrier will wonder about you, but it beats carrying everything.
