Bed and breakfasts are a wonderful choice for a romantic getaway or vacation. They are known for courteous hosts, services, amenities, and breakfasts. Generally, bed and breakfasts are individually owned, and therefore vary greatly.

This makes it especially important to do your homework before choosing a bed and breakfast. Here are some things to consider and research before making a reservation or taking your trip.

Call to make your reservation instead of booking it online. This will give you an opportunity to find out about their service, even if just over the phone. If it's lacking over the phone, keep looking.

Verify that they offer breakfast and find out what it includes. Is it a full continental breakfast or only cold food? Find out if they offer free lunch or dinner, or what options they do offer for these meals. Ask about the eating accommodations. Some people enjoy meeting new people and dining with them, others enjoy their privacy. Make sure the bed and breakfast fits you.

Find out the policy about children. More often than not, they are not allowed, but occasionally they are. If you prefer not to be surrounded by other people's children on your trip, verify that they are not welcome. However, if you would like to take your children, look for a bed and breakfast that will allow them.

Many bed and breakfasts also provide a variety of entertainment and activities. These include things such as horseback riding, fishing, and skiing. Some have a social room and cocktails. Another advantage of staying in a bed and breakfast is that the hosts or owners provide attention that is more personal and are willing to arrange activities or recommend restaurants outside of the bed and breakfast.

Search for reviews. You want to read a variety from several people to give you as much information as possible. Who better to tell you about the bed and breakfast than former guests?

Staying at a bed and breakfast can be an amazing experience, if you have done your homework and know what to expect. Take the time and effort to guarantee yourself an incredible vacation with no unexpected surprises at the bed and breakfast you choose.
