|
There are many activities you can do to have a good time and enjoy a great vacation without spending a lot of money. This article is a good read for those who would like to plan a holiday full of excitement and fun - no matter where you live. By Simon Johnnson Recession and Travel In the last couple of years, the world has witnessed widespread recession that has left an adverse impact on many people across the globe. The most immediate effect is that many financially-strapped people are pressured to save money and spend less to weather this difficult period. As a result, they choose to spend their vacations at home and do not venture out even during the summer months. This forced strategy for the sake of thrift has earned itself the sobriquet "staycation", which means staying home for vacations. Staycations In spite of tight finances, if one is forced to take a staycation, things need not look bleak at all. A staycation does not have to be uneventful and boring. There are lots of activities that you can do to have a good time and spend a great vacation at home or close to it. This article is a good read for those who would like to plan a virtual vacation full of excitement and fun - no matter where you live! Things to Do on a Staycation • If you own a boat or might be able to borrow one for a short vacation, then plan a fun-filled trip with your family to the nearest lake. This is cheaper than going on a cruise with your family and will only cost you a little money for fuel. The kids will enjoy this much more than going to far-off and exotic destinations. It will also give you the opportunity to bond with your family more intimately, as you will be the only ones in the boat - unlike an expensive cruise, which would have to be shared with other guests. • Camping out is another good idea. This has been one of the classical recreational activities for many years, but sometimes we can lose sight of it while planning for grand vacations. The fact of the matter is that the nation boasts some of the best national parks and outdoor recreational areas in the whole world. Taking your family out to these spots will ensure that you all have an enjoyable and memorable time that will leave a lasting impression on everyone. • City dwellers need not despair; cities have lots to offer too. There are many local parks, museums, zoos, and a host of other family- friendly sites and recreational venues where you can take your family for entertainment. You could take your children to one of the city parks for a variety of recreational activities. You could have a picnic, go boating on a rented boat, bike along with your children, or just have fun and play games in the park. • A visit to the local zoo might be both entertaining and educational. Young children are usually delighted to go to the zoo. Allow the kids to explore the area and participate in the animal-feeding activity under your supervision if permitted. Most zoos have special animal shows and other exciting events for the entertainment of children on holidays. • You can spend your summer cultivating your artistic and creative side by visiting public museums. There are thematic museums that exhibit art collections depicting history, science, and the arts. Taking your children to these places will help them to recognize their own talents and interest in the arts and history. Many museums offer programs and interactive quizzes that your children may participate in if they feel so inclined. Such visits will not only be recreational, but also informative and thought-provoking. It is All About Family It might be useful to remember that vacations are more for family bonding and spending quality time with each other. Summer vacations need not be spent traveling to expensive resorts or be located near the beach. The city has many interesting opportunities to offer and you can spend a most enjoyable vacation being engaged in the various activities as suggested above. The important thing is to do a bit of research and find out which places are worth visiting and which activities are worth trying out together with your family.
