 5 Vacation-Saving Tips for Families
Fewer families are going on vacation due to the declining condition of the economy. This article mentions some alternative travel ideas, with the hope that they will provide some families with a way to have a vacation this summer.

This summer, 35% fewer families will go on vacation due to the declining condition of the economy. These families are probably the ones most in need of a holiday, but least likely to get it. I would like to mention some alternative travel ideas, with the hope that they will provide some families with a way to have a vacation this summer.

  • First, consider traveling by train. If the distance is reasonable, it can be a wonderful experience for your family. It may even be faster than flying, with a minimum of 25% of all flights being late each day - and this number is expected to skyrocket this summer.

  • Second, begin checking the travel section of your newspaper. Often, great deals are offered in the local newspaper that very few people even know to look for. The key, though, is to check for these deals each and every day.

  • Third, go camping. It's a great way to spend uninterrupted time together as a family. You can barbecue, roast smores, and have a great time together. Consider caravanning with friends. You'll have playmates for your kids and baby-sitters for them as well, provided that you, of course, baby-sit for your friends.

Check out an RV if you don't like the idea of staying in a tent. Make sure you check out the essential items to bring if you choose to travel in an RV, like a working smoke detector, fire extinguisher, and towing accessories if needed.

  • Fourth, during the low season of your destination, do not book far in advance. When a hotel is short on guests for an extended period of time, they begin to give deep discounts and specials.

  • Fifth, consult a travel agent. It may be cheaper to book with a travel agent than directly through the hotel or airline, due to the frequent business they do together. In addition, travel agents offer a variety of packages that allow you to pick the one that best matches your budget.

  • Most importantly, don't give up on the idea of a family vacation without checking into it. The economy isn't only affecting families, it's also affecting businesses. They are looking for ways to make vacations affordable because they need your business.
